An elopement wedding, with its variants of surprise weddings such as the one described below, has become for many couples the real ideal wedding; an alternative with more privacy and meaning. Here’s what it’s all about, and why it could also be your dream come true.
The term elopement began to be used in the 17th century to refer to couples who decided to run away in order to get married.
At that time, it was done for very different reasons, mainly to escape the possible refusal of the families. Years later, at the time of the Great Depression, there was a new boom in elopement weddings, at that time, primarily for economic reasons. So that the lack of resources would not be an impediment to seal the love of two people through a wedding.
Nowadays, an elopement wedding has become an indelible gift for the couple who wish to seal a unique moment in life in a very special way, while they are on tourism in another region or country.
An elopement wedding is mainly an intimate wedding, held in a special place, where the most important thing is the union of the people who are going to link their lives. Only with the presence of a photographer, an officiant or celebrant to perform the ceremony and at most a few people very close to the couple and even, if necessary, their children.
And now we tell you here the surprise wedding we did in Mijas Pueblo, Malaga, where in the upper part of Mijas Pueblo, in the middle of the mountain, there is a small chapel that can be reached by a walking path. The groom had told the bride that he was waiting for her upstairs, that there was a restaurant with a nice view, to come dressed in white for dinner.
When the bride appeared, we gave her a bouquet of flowers and the groom was waiting for her at the door of the chapel, where I was already standing: the first images are of the bride’s excitement upon her arrival.
Then we did the ceremony, in Portuguese, it was a Brazilian couple, very nice, they read the wedding vows, exchanged rings and we threw petals for the end of the ceremony.
But it didn’t end here: then we went to Mijas village for a small photo tour, which delighted the couple. I am preparing it and will post the link here. I hope you like it.
